“A healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restore physical and emotional well-being.”
Reiki is the term used by the Japanese to describe a cosmic life force or energy that surrounds and connects us all. Many cultures believe in this force although they all give it a different name, for example, the Hebrews talk about Ruach, the Chinese refer to it as Ch’i, the Polynesian’s as Mana and the Buddhist’s call it Prana.
In the 1920’s, a Japanese Buddist named Mikao Usui, developed an alternative healing technique that involved the practitioner, or healer, tuning in to this energy to become a guide or channel. The healer uses gentle, non-evasive, hands on healing to intuitively transfer and direct the flow of this life force energy to areas of the body that required healing.
Since it’s development, Reiki has spread throughout the world and is being used as a successful form of alternative healing by practitioners all over the globe.
